mini triathalon

This weekend our base had it's 1st annual sprint triathlon.  I had some friends who were competing so I woke up at 0600 to go take some photos.  I do not know how people get up that early every day.  I could barely function!  I am definitely not a morning person.

Luckily, it was a beautiful day

SOS

I heard today that there is a crossfit class at the gym on Atsugi.  I can't find anything about it on Atsugi's MWR website, can any of you Atsugi girls help me out with this one?!?!  I want to know what days & time the class is.  I would REALLY appreciate it!

Um, can we say commissary JACKPOT?!?!
Today I found almost everything I wasn't able to find at my commissary at the one near by...almost makes me want to live in the other housing area...ALMOST!  Dinner is going to be so super yummy today!

CrossFit update

2 posts in 2 days!  woohoo!

So I missed a whole week of CrossFit while I was in NOLA but it sure didn't feel like it with all the work I did in the heat down there!  Monday I did a make up session with my trainer, Shaun, to go over all the skills I'd missed the week prior.  I thought I'd be good the next day since we didn't actually do a work out...I was WRONG.  Sore as usual on Tuesday!  Tuesdays work out was good, 3 rounds of 250m row and 10 thrusters, and I finished with a total time of 5:25.  I was hoping to stay under 6:00 (2 minutes per round) and I did, so I was super pumped.  Before I left for NOLA, I convinced a friend to start going with me!  It makes all the difference having someone to keep you motivated and vice versa.

We didn't take measurements/weigh-in before so it's not as easy to track progress as I would like, but I feel better and stronger, so I guess that's all that matters!

Oh, and I also caved and finally bought my 1st pair of Vibram's.  They felt great Tuesday and I'm excited to give them another try tonight!  My friends in Missouri have been telling me for at least 6 months now how great they are and my old gym shoes finally bit the dust, so I figured I'd give these a go.  Anyone else have them?  Love them/hate them?

UPDATE:  CrossFit today SUCKED!  Ran in the Vibram's for the 1st time, that's going to take some getting used to!  Plus, it was hotter than ever and I somehow managed to strain my lower back doing SDHP (Sumo Deadlift High Pull).  So me and this bag of ice are calling it a night, hoping to not be in pain when I wake up! (PS, I know I make an awful sad face...I don't know how some girls look so cute making a sad face, it doesn't work for me ha ha!)

I'm beautiful

or at least my blog is, according to the fabulous Sarah at G.I. Joe's Wife!  Thanks for the award!

The rules to this one are quite similar to my last one, so I might cheat because the last time I did this, it turned out to be my favorite blog post to date and I don't know that I could be that creative again!  So here it goes:

The Rules:

1. Thank the wonderful person who gave you this award. {DONE}
2. List 7 things about yourself that your readers wouldn't know otherwise. {THIS IS THE PART WHERE I'LL CHEAT}
3. Pass this award on to bloggers you’ve recently discovered and whom you think are fantastic.{THIS WILL BE THE HARD PART}
4. Contact said bloggers and let them know you've given them an award!

So last time I did this, like I said, it was so much fun and it's my favorite post on this blog. {If you haven't seen it before, check it out!}  I don't know that I can come up with 7 more things about me and make it that fun so I'm cheating...if you want to know a little about me, check out that post here and you'll actually learn 10 things!

On to the presentations: Ok, I just went through my Google reader and couldn't find a single blogger who hasn't received this yet so...if you're reading this and you haven't received this award yet, I present it to YOU!

Thanks again, Sarah!

Grab My Button!

Some of you may have noticed that I didn't post my Moovin March post yesterday, but that's because I not only had BK last week, I also didn't go to the gym AT ALL...total FAIL =(  Thankfully March is over tomorrow!  I'm still going to do my best not to eat fast food, and get my butt to the gym, but at least if I have an off week I don't have to tell the whole world about it any more!  I hope all the other bloggers who participate had great results!  It was great getting to know you all through this activity!

Now I'm off to enjoy the fabulous weather we have here in MO with my hubs who is on spring break this week!

Movin March {week 3 review}

A few weeks ago, I was searching for some motivation to get my butt off the couch and Casey's Moving March at The Ever Changing Life was just want I needed!  So I signed up and agreed to 3 simple rules:
1. No fast food for the whole month
2. Work out at least 3 times a week
3. Blog about it on Mondays

Last week I started out on the rebound from an awful week prior. I did crossfit Monday, which always knocks me out for a few days, then took the pooch for a walk on Thursday.  I managed to get it 2 work outs on Friday, another round of crossfit and 4 hours of dancing with girlfriends in heels.  Now I used to wear heels ALL THE TIME when I lived back in Cincinnati and never did they cause me any pain, but being that there are about zero places here where it seems appropriate to wear heals (I'm sorry, but it's just weird to me to get dolled up and wear heels to WalMart), I haven't worn them in months.  By Saturday morning, my calves hurt SO BAD, I was limping around and chugging water trying to make the soreness go away to no avail....I am sill sore today!  From here on, I vow to wear my heels at least once a week (even if it's to the commissary) just so when I want to wear them, I don't have to suffer through this soreness again!

Oh, and NO fast food this week!  It's amazing how much we rely on the convenience of fast food.  Even though I never have really eaten it A LOT, I've realized how easy it is to just stop and pick something up when you're out.  Twice last week I thought oh, I'll just grab something while we're out and had to remind myself NOT to, to wait the 10 minutes till I got home and could eat something there!

Movin March {week 2 review}

This challenge has 2 simple goals
1. NO fast food for the month of March
2. work out at least 3 times a week

This week can be summed up in one word:
FAIL

I didn't workout once last week (unless you count hauling 120 40# bags of dirt into my garden) and we gorged on Chinese take out last night!  Next week will be better!  I'm off to plan my meals for the week and head to they gym!

Get Moving Monday

I'm a day late posting my Moving Monday post, I haven't updated my Project365 in 2+ weeks and I haven't posted a recipe in weeks...all because I can't stop getting sick!  Luckily I felt well enough to road trip it to Nashville with my hubby over the weekend but as soon as we got back, I started feeling cruddy again!  So this is going to be a long day of catching up!  1st up, Get Moving March:

Hosted by Casey at The Everchanging Life.

This game has three simple rules:

1. No fast food for March
2. Exercise 3 times a week
3. Post about it on Mondays

Week 1 wasn't the best, and week 2 isn't starting off any better!  I have decided that trying for a 1/2 marathon is a little over the top, so I'm aiming for a 5K instead which is a much more attainable goal.  Now I just have to find one I want to run!  I only broke the no fast food rule twice on our trip to Nashville which I'm ok with because I did keep my promise not to eat any fried food when I did eat fast food.  Now that the road trip is over this part of the program should be smooth sailing =)  I did work out 3 times last week but didn't finish my running training due to the trip.  This weeks training is supposed to be the same as last weeks, but because of the fact that I can't even breath normally while I'm sitting here on the couch blogging due to allergies, I'm sure it's not a good idea to try to run right now...hopefully I feel better tomorrow =)  Hopefully I have a better report next week!

RUN?!?! Who me?!?!

So I've been seriously lacking in the workout motivation department and I'm going to attempt to use my blog to keep me accountable, especially since I got this wild hair to complete my 1st ever 1/2 MARATHON!  I don't run, so I have no idea how I'm going to accomplish this, but I'm going to give it my all for 9 weeks and see what happens!

Casey over at
Ever Changing Life has started "Get Moving March" and I'm signing up to motivate me through my 1st month of training.
This means 2 things:
1. No fast food for the whole month (except for this weekend when we go to Nashville, only because it's just me and the guys and I don't want to be a PITA, so if we do end up eating fast food, I will substitute "no fried food" for "no fast food")
2. I have to report my work out plan and progress each Monday.

So here's my week 1 action plan:

Monday: REST (WAHOO, I haven't even started and I get a rest day?  I like this plan!)
Tuesday: walk 2 miles, run 1 mile, walk 2 miles
Wednesday: Cross Train (it will most likely be crossfit)
Thursday: Run 1 mile
Friday: REST (and drive to Nashville)
Saturday: walk 2 miles, run 1 mile, walk 2 miles
Sunday: run 2 miles

Sounds easy, but like I said before, I'm not a runner, never have been, but I hope to become one.  While I'm in Nashville, I plan on doing a little shopping for some new running gear.  Mainly shoes and a watch, but probably a pair of  pants and a jacket as well for the days when the weather isn't so hot here.  If any of you are runners and you have any suggestions or advice, it would be greatly appreciated!!!  Hopefully I have good news to report when I get back from Nashville next Monday! (Nothing like starting out a new work out plan and cutting out fast food the week we take our 1st road trip of the year!)
