Homemade Vanilla Extract & a Christmas giveaway!

I've been seeing homemade vanilla extract pop up on many food blogs I read so when I saw fresh vanilla beans in Bali, I knew I had to pick some up and make my own.  It is quite simply the easiest thing I've ever made in my life.  The process consisted of 5 steps.

1. Open vodka bottle
2. Insert one bean
3. Close vodka bottle
4. Shake every few days
5. Be patient {this was the most difficult step}

Day 1

After 24 hours.

After 1 week.

I used the personalized labels I received in my Erin Condren life planner to make labels for the bottles.

I cannot wait to send them out as Christmas gifts this year!

On to the giveaway!

I signed up to be a part of an ornament swap with some fellow bloggers and got a dud for a partner.  She never responded to my emails or contacted me in anyway so I have an extra Christmas ornament laying around my house now.

How adorable is she?!?!

I decided that since y'all are so good at showing me love, I'm going to show some to you!

If you'd like to have her hanging on your tree, leave me a comment telling me so and I'll randomly choose one commenter as the winner.

I'm also going to send the winner one of the mini bottles of vanilla extract I made just because I love ya!

Entries will be accepted until Thursday night {8pm EST} so I have time to get it in the mail Friday afternoon before we leave for our Christmas vacation to China!

Yes, I would love her. I haven't seen any cute Kokeshi ornaments, just the cheap ones that look really cheap. And who knew it was so easy to make vanilla extract?!?!

I'd like her on my tree! I am actually making some vanilla myself right now. I'm a little worried about it...mine has been steeping (is that the right word?) for about a month and a half and it doesn't look as dark as yours! I used about 5 beans in my bottle of vodka, maybe your beans were fresher since you got them in Bali! How cool is that?!?

I'd love to have her! If I don't win, can I send you money for one? (I still have Yen!) It'd be such a great momento of my travel! :)
